Island of Curacao
What would you say if I told you you could find a European atmosphere in the Caribbean. How is that possible? Well, the island of Curacao is the place I'm talking about. Curacao is located in the southwest part of the Caribbean and is the largest island of the Netherlands Antilles.
It's just 35 miles north of Venezuela and 42 miles east of Aruba. The Island of Curacao is 38 miles long and 7.5 miles across and only two and a half hours flying time from Miami.
Curacao is just outside the hurricane belt; so its an ideal place for a holiday destination where you could be sure of a good weather throughout the year.
Being situated within the tropics, just 12 degrees north of the Equator, the island of Curacao has a warm and sunny climate year round, with and average temperature of 80ºF. Easterly trade winds regularly buffet the island and pickup speed during spring.
The rainy season (October to February), features occasional, short showers typically during the night which bring warm and sunny weather the following day
The population of the island is roughly 130,000 made up of 55 nationalities, with the capital city being Willemstad - the only city in Netherlands Antilles. The island of Curacao is one of the five islands that make up of the Netherlands Antilles (the other islands are Bonaire, Saint Martin, Saint Eustatius and Saba). And all have Dutch as their official language.
Most of the population speak English, Spanish and Papiamento (a combination Dutch, French, Spanish and Portuguese language). Willemstad, the island's capital is home to a rich culture and history.
The capital city offers the visitor shopping, sightseeing, dining and the festivities. While Willemstad is the island's undisputed cultural center, there are other regions of the island worth visiting.
The island may be the largest of the Netherlands Antilles, but still small enough for visitors to venture to all parts of the islands during their vacation. The island of Curacao Island is a unique blend of "Old World" and "New World" with its colorful chain of pastel colored buildings reminiscent of Amsterdam.
Legend has it the first governor of Curacao had an allergy to the color of white which is why all the buildings and structures are painted anything but white
This colorful nature to Willemstad makes it the most photographed cityscapes throughout the Caribbean.
A tourist on the Island of Curacao has a lot to choose from, so if you plan on visiting - expect an unforgettable experience.
If you are looking for vacation spots in Jamaica where you can relax, unwind and get away from it all, you might consider the north coast of the island. This is the area which holds Ocho Rios, a very popular vacation spot and it also has plenty of resorts that give you a relaxing time on beautiful beaches.
You are not too far out of the nightlife, however, and there will still be plenty to do, just in case you happen to want to mix it up a little bit.
The south coast of Jamaica also offers some opportunities to get away from it all but it does not offer the luxury resorts and the lush island atmosphere that is available elsewhere.
Regardless of which of the vacation spots in Jamaica that you choose, you're sure to have a great time. Leave your troubles at home and come enjoy the relaxing environment that Jamaica has to offer.
You're sure to go home relaxed and dreaming about the next time you will be able to visit again.
