Beaches of the Bahamas

The chain of Caribbean islands which make up the nation of the Bahamas can boast of some of the world's most beautiful beaches. Most of the country's beaches still retain their unspoiled natural beauty.

Since the Bahamas is made up of several small islands, there is a lot of shoreline in this country – and a lot of beaches. This makes it relatively easy to find a quiet stretch of beach even here in one of the world's top vacation destinations.

There are many beaches to enjoy on New Providence Island, most notably Cabbage Beach. The white sands of this beach make this public beach immensely popular with the locals as well as with tourists.

Cabbage Beach covers three miles of the island's coast, spanning the distance between Atlantis Lagoon and Snorkeler's Cove. The area is lush with palm trees, casuarinas and sea grapes.

Harbour Island's Pink Sands Beach is one of the most relaxing places in the entire nation, if not the world.

A coral reef lies just slightly off the shore off this three mile beach, making this an ideal place for scuba diving as well as swimming.

The coral absorbs the tidal forces of the waves, so this is a calm beach for swimming and exploring. This beach attracts morning sunbathers – due to its location, it is often shadowed in the afternoon.

Cat Island features peaceful, quiet white sand beaches along crystal clear ocean. The beach is home to coconut palms, casuarinas and palmettos.

Another out of the way beach in the Bahamas where you can relax and get away from your fellow tourists is Tahiti Beach. This beach is on the Acabos island in Hope Town – and is only accessible by boat, walking or bicycling!

If you'd like more lively beaches, than New Providence Island's Cable Beach will suit you well. There are restaurants nearby offering local and international cuisine, as well as bars, nightclubs and casinos.

You can also sign up for tours and rent equipment for aquatic sports at many facilities located here. Keep in mind that Cable Beach can get crowded from time to time.

Even though this beach can be a little jammed, there is an interesting blend of fun loving locals and tourists here who mingle and converse on the sand.

You'll also find many beach vendors here, selling all manner of goods and services from handmade jewelry to hair braiding. This beach has a lot of music and dancing, giving it a party atmosphere which makes it the most popular beach on New Providence.

The Bahamas are famous the world over for their white sand beaches. The beauty of these island's beaches are equaled by few others anywhere.
